CHINESE: Mandarin and Cantonese Assistant Buyer (Purchasing)
If you speak fluent CHINESE ( Mandarin and also Cantonese) and have a PURCHASING background this is a lovely opportunity to join a growing specialist food business that imports into the UK. The role is very autonomous and you will be researching and sourcing new suppliers in China and HK as well as liaising with existing suppliers about any new products that they are launching. Full product training within foods will be provided as long as you have worked BUYING in the past. There are excellent career opportunities in this expanding sector at the moment. Languages required: Fluent Mandarin and Cantonese (and English)
Salary: to £35,000 per annum + benefits
Work style: This is a fully office based role
Start date: ASAP
Sponsorship: No sponsorship will be provided. Successful candidate needs to have eligible to work in the UK without restrictions.
Travel involved: Yes there will be some travel involved to meet suppliers in Holland
Essential background: A Purchasing background is essential but full training within the Food sector will be provided
Company details: This is a well established food import/export business that specialises in importing specialists food products from Asia and supplies supermarkets. The company has gone through a recent explosion in growth as a result of the increased interest in home-cooking that started during Covid. People are now experimenting with new flavours and new dishes and this company has been able to expand strongly in order to accommodate increasingly sophisticated and international dishes .
The role: 4 key elements : 1. purchasing 2. stock management 3. Order management 4. General administration
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing/Stock Management
Monitor stock levels and identify purchasing requirements
Research and source the best products and suppliers based in Hong Kong
Locate and approach possible suppliers
Develop excellent relationships with suppliers and plan ahead of stock
Negotiate delivery times and product quantities with suppliers
Conduct market research to identify pricing trends
Order Management/General Admin
Track all purchase orders
Update internal databases with order details (dates, vendors, quantities, discounts)
Maintain updated records of invoices and contracts
Constantly communicate with your suppliers and confirm or change orders
Liaise with warehouse staff to ensure all products deliver in good condition
